I’m Carol Spears, the second grade teacher at St. James. I have two grown children, Alex and Janie, and 6 grandchildren. I have two cats, Brownie and Louise, we would have a dog too, but my daughter is allergic to them. When I moved to Washington in 1994, I was hoping to eventually teach preschool when my daughter was old enough. I had just gotten an Associate in Early Childhood Development from Carl Sandburg College, right before we moved here. I eventually ended up teaching preschool at the Y daycare. I enjoyed teaching so much that I decided to finish my 4 year degree at Iowa Wesleyan. I received a reading endorsement in addition to an Elementary Ed.degree. After graduating I applied for a job at St. James School in 2005. I was hired as the Title I teacher; I moved from that to eventually teaching 3rd grade. I left briefly in 2016, thinking we would be moving. This didn’t work out and another opportunity came along for me to work here. I was overwhelmed with joy to be able to come back to St. James and teach 2nd grade. I am so thankful to be able to work with children, families, and staff that know and love God.
