A+ For Education Teacher - Julie Timmins, St. James Elementary School
Julie Timmins is a retired public middle school science teacher who came to St. James 2 years ago as a long term substitute teacher. Since then, she has joined our family as the English Language and Title I teacher three days a week. After 42 years in education, she went back to school to earn her English as a Second Language endorsement. This year, Mrs. Timmins really stands out and shines! She is currently our kindergarten teacher for the first semester. She willing stepped up to help our students, families, and school. Mrs. Timmins has taken on a new role and challenge! She has learned so incredibly much in the world of technology and curriculum. During her prep times, she is still serving ELL and Title I students. Mrs. Timmins is always positive and upbeat and willing to try something new or take on a challenge. She is kind and patient with the kindergartners and she has found ways to connect with the diverse learners in her class. She has established relationships with her students so they feel safe and cared for. I am constantly surprised of the new things she is doing for students to meet their needs. An example is using Spanish to connect with students who have limited English. Another example is using visuals such as a designated work area for a student who has difficulty in sharing space. Mrs. Timmins also collaborates with associates and special education teachers from the public school. She is managing a lot this semester and she is doing it with grace, a smile, and lots of success. Mrs. Timmins is an exemplary teacher who is deserving of recognition.
